Why does my aircon smell worse when it first starts?
The fan pushes air across whatever is sitting on the coils and filter, so anything that has built up while the unit sat idle gets blown into the room in the first few minutes.
Can evaporative systems cause smells too?
Yes. Evaporative units carry water through pads and a bleed-off system, and stale water in our dry summers smells sour when the season starts. Pads and water feeds need a pre-summer check.
